Graduate student Tyler Desjardins made his digital slide presentation, “The Scout / Guide Astronomy Badge”, before 17 visitors (14 children and 3 adults) from the 2nd London Scout Group, at the Cronyn Observatory for Exploring the Stars, Wednesday, November 28th, 7:00 p.m. He answered questions by the Scouts and their Leaders.
Clear skies greeted the 3rd St. Thomas Brownies at the Cronyn Observatory for Exploring the Stars on Tuesday, November 27th, 7:00 p.m. Graduate student Emily McCullough made the digital slide presentation “Brownies Exploring Space.” RASC London Centre member Everett Clark assisted and was joined later by Bob Duff, around 8:10 p.m., when everybody was in the dome. Everett counted 43 visitors (24 children and 19 adults) at the beginning of the evening and the final total was 47 visitors (26 children and 21 adults). Following her digital slide presentation, Emily distributed 47 “Star Finder” planispheres and showed everybody how to assemble and use them. Emily then gave them a green laser sky tour outside in front of the Cronyn Observatory, showing them Polaris, Cygnus, Jupiter and the Moon.
Clear skies with a slight haze greeted the 110th Byron Brownies at the Cronyn Observatory for Exploring the Stars, Thursday, November 22nd. RASC London Centre member Everett Clark set up the London Centre’s 25.4cm Dobsonian with the 17mm Nagler eyepiece (66X) on the walkway in front of the Observatory. Graduate student Emily McCullough began the event early, around 6:45 p.m., giving the Brownies a sky tour with a green laser pointer and then showing them Albireo through the Dobsonian. RASC London Centre member Bob Duff arrived around 6:55 p.m. and took over the Dobsonian.
Rick Saunders made his slide presentation on a laptop computer set up on the back of Everett Clark’s pickup truck before the 1st Sparta Beavers and Cubs, including 25 children, leaders and parents, near their usual meeting place on Roberts Line near Sparta, Wednesday, November 14th, 6:30 p.m.
