Exploring the Stars, 64B London Brownies, October 15th, 2013

Cloudy skies greeted 20 visitors (15 children and 5 adults) to the Cronyn Observatory for Exploring the Stars, Tuesday, October 15th, 2013, 6:30 p.m. Graduate student Parshati Patel made the digital slide presentation “Constellations.” This was followed by an activity in which she distributed 15 “Star Finder” planispheres and showed the children how to assemble and use them.

Cronyn Observatory, International Observe the Moon Night, Saturday, October 12th, 2013

Despite mostly cloudy skies, the Cronyn Observatory enjoyed an excellent turn-out of visitors for the International Observe the Moon Night, Saturday, October 12th, 2013, 5:00—10:00 p.m. People enjoyed fun activities, public talks and a panel discussion for space enthusiasts of all ages. Faculty members present included Dr. Jan Cami, Dr. Phil Stooke and computer support Henry Leparskas, who took pictures.

Exploring the Stars, Bryanston Socialites, October 8th, 2013

Clear skies greeted 12 visitors, including 11 seniors and one young adult, from the Bryanston Socialites to the Cronyn Observatory for Exploring the Stars, Tuesday, October 8th, 2013, 7:00—9:00 p.m. Graduate student Parshati Patel made her digital slide presentation on “Constellations” with a bit of the “Solar System.” RASC London Centre member Suzie Chelico also attended, but left the Cronyn Observatory after the presentation and a view through the London Centre’s 25.4cm Dobsonian operated by Steve Gauthier.

Astronomy 1021 Projects at the Cronyn Observatory, September 10th—October 3rd, 2013

Since 2011 RASC London Centre members have been assisting with the first year student Astronomy 1021 Cronyn Observatory Telescope Projects. This year, RASC London Centre members set up the London Centre’s 25.4cm Dobsonian and the Cronyn Observatory’s Meade 8-inch (20.3cm) Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes on the Observatory’s balcony to supplement the 25.4cm refractor in the dome. The Astronomy 1021 students had 5 telescope projects to complete including observations of the Moon, M13, Albireo, M57 and M31.

November OGM

Once again, London Centre member Dave Clark has volunteered to host the November Observers Group Meeting on Saturday, November 16. This has become an annual event for the London Centre and is always a great time. Club members, family, and friends of the club are all invited to attend.
