Hazy, partly cloudy skies greeted 33 visitors (26 children and 7 adults) from the 99th London Pathfinders / Rangers / Guides for Exploring the Stars at the Cronyn Observatory, Tuesday, November 26th, 2013, 6:30 p.m. Graduate student Shannon Hicks made the digital slide presentation “The Scout / Guide Astronomy Badge.” She distributed and showed how to assemble and use 33 “Star Finder” planispheres.

Light falling snow greeted 26 visitors (16 children and 10 adults) from the 53rd Girl Guides for Exploring the Stars at the Cronyn Observatory, Monday, November 25th, 2013, 6:30 p.m. Graduate student Dilini Subasinghe made the digital slide presentation “The Scout / Guide Astronomy Badge.” She explained 25 “Star Finder” planispheres distributed to the group.

Exploring the Stars, Dorchester Cub Pack, Tuesday, November 19th, 2013

Clear skies greeted 18 visitors (11 children and 7 adults) from the Dorchester Cub Pack to the Cronyn Observatory for Exploring the Stars, Tuesday, November 19th, 2013, 6:30 p.m. Graduate student Tony Martinez made the digital slide presentation “Constellations” and dealt with a list of items they wanted covered in extensive question and answer sessions before and during the talk. Tony emphasized identifying the circumpolar constellations and finding Polaris and this was later followed up on the Observatory's roof patio under the stars.

Exploring the Stars, Oakridge Secondary School Science Club, November 18th, 2013

Cloudy skies greeted 18 visitors (13 Grade 9-12 students and 5 adults) from the Oakridge Secondary School Science Club to the Cronyn Observatory for Exploring the Stars, Monday, November 18th, 2013, 7:00 p.m. Graduate student Dilini Subasinghe made the digital slide presentation “Our Messy Solar System” and followed this with the activity, “Kitchen Comet”, which involved making a comet with dry ice and other ingredients.

Exploring the Stars, École secondaire Mgr-Bruyère, November 13th, 2013

Hazy cloudy skies, with some clearing later, greeted 18 visitors (13 children and 5 adults) from the École secondaire Mgr-Bruyère Grade-9 class to the Cronyn Observatory for Exploring the Stars, Wednesday, November 13th, 2013, 6:30 p.m. Graduate student Shannon Hicks made the digital slide presentation, “Our Messy Solar System,” and fielded questions from the class. She followed this with the activity, “Kitchen Comet,” inviting the students to the table at the front of the lecture room and making a comet with dry ice, dirt and other ingredients.
