Exploring the Stars, London 4th Cub Group, March 27th, 2014

Cloudy skies with some rain greeted 22 visitors (13 children and 9 adults) from the London 4th Cub Group for Exploring the Stars at the Cronyn Observatory, Thursday, March 27th, 2014, 7:00 p.m. Graduate student Dilini Subasinghe made the digital slide presentation The Cub Scout Astronomy Badge and answered a lot of very good questions. She immediately followed this with the activity Constellations, distributing 20 Star Finder planispheres. Dilini and RASC London Centre member Everett Clark then went around with Scotch tape to help everybody assemble the planispheres. Dilini used a slide showing a Star Finder planisphere and slides of the constellations to show them how to use them.

Exploring the Stars, Western Law – Student Legal Society, March 26th, 2014

Mostly clear skies greeted 40 visitors from Western Law – Student Legal Society for Exploring the Stars at the Cronyn Observatory, Wednesday, March 26th, 2014, 7:00 p.m. Graduate student Parshati Patel made the digital slide presentation Life in the Universe and fielded questions. She immediately followed this with the activity Kitchen Comet making a comet from dry ice and other ingredients on a table at the front of the lecture room.

Partly cloudy skies with hazy clouds greeted 31 visitors (28 students and 3 adults) from the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School Grade-9 class for Exploring the Stars at the Cronyn Observatory, Tuesday, March 25th, 2014, 6:30 p.m. Graduate student Tony Martinez made the digital slide presentation The Big Bang and then proceeded with his next presentation, Mars fielding questions during and after both presentations.

Cloudy skies with snow flurries greeted 23 visitors (18 children and 5 adults) from the 82nd London Guides for Exploring the Stars, at the Cronyn Observatory, Monday, March 24th, 2014, 6:30 p.m. Graduate student Shannon Hicks made the digital slide presentation The Scout / Guide Astronomy Badge and, after fielding some questions, brought everybody upstairs into the dome.

Exploring the Stars, Arthur Stringer Public School, March 20th, 2014

Cloudy skies greeted 37 visitors (27 children and 10 adults) from the Arthur Stringer Public School Grade-6/7 class for Exploring the Stars at the Cronyn Observatory, Thursday, March 20th, 2014, 6:45 p.m. Graduate student Dilini Subasinghe made her digital slide presentation Mars and answered questions. Dilini immediately followed this with the activity Constellations, distributing some 26 Star Finder planispheres and circulating 2 roles of Scotch tape for everybody to complete assembling them. She used a slide showing the planisphere and slides of the constellations to show them how to use them.
