Rob Weryk is the Guest of Honour for our meeting December 15, 2017!

Dr Rob Weryk is a Western University PhD in Physics & Astronomy and now a researcher for the PanSTARRs project at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu.
He will be talking about “The Discovery Circumstances of the First Interstellar Asteroid.” Rob discovered this object in October with the PanSTARRs survey telescope, and the object is now named ‘Oumuamua, a Hawaiian word for “messenger from afar.”

Partly cloudy skies greeted 47 visitors (45 children and 2 teachers) from St. Anthony French Immersion Catholic School (Grade 6), for Exploring the Stars at Western University’s Cronyn Observatory, Wednesday, December 6th, 2017, 11:00 a.m.—1:00 p.m. Graduate student Viraja Khatu presented the digital slide presentation “The Small Bodies in Our Solar System” and fielded questions. She followed this with the activity “Kitchen Comet,” making a comet from dry ice and other materials on a table at the front of the lecture room.

Exploring the Stars, 97th London Beavers, November 27th, 2017

Mostly cloudy, later clearing skies greeted 25 visitors (18 children and 7 adults) from the 97th London Beavers, for Exploring the Stars at Western University’s Cronyn Observatory, Monday November 27th, 2017, 6:30 p.m. Graduate student Daniel Hatfield presented the digital slide presentation “Constellations” and fielded questions.

Cronyn Observatory Public Night, Saturday, November 25th, 2017

Cloudy skies with some light rain greeted 50 or more visitors to Western University’s Cronyn Observatory Public Night, Saturday, November 25th, 2017, 7:00 p.m. Graduate student Jeff Vankerkhove presented the digital slide presentation “Our Solar System” and fielded questions. The visitors were then invited to go upstairs into the dome or downstairs into the “Black Room,” for demonstrations of the “Transit Demo” and “Spectroscopy Demo,” and tours of the “Period Rooms.”

Exploring the Stars, Lester B. Pearson School for the Arts, November 21st, 2017

A cloudy sky with rain greeted 59 visitors (42 children and 17 adults) from the Lester B. Pearson School for the Arts (Grade 6), for Exploring the Stars at Western University’s Cronyn Observatory, Tuesday, November 21st, 2017, 7:00 p.m. They were welcomed by graduate students Jeff Vankerkhove and Daniel Hatfield. Jeff presented the digital slide presentation “Our Solar System” and fielded questions.
