Exploring the Stars, 54th London Beavers & Cubs Group, October 10th, 2012

Mostly cloudy skies greeted the 54th London Beavers & Cubs Group to the Cronyn Observatory on Wednesday, October 10th, 6:45 p.m. Graduate student Tyler Desjardins made the digital slide presentation, The Scout / Guide Astronomy Badge, and this was followed by a tour of the big 25.4cm refractor in the dome.

Exploring the Stars, Spark / Brownie, Girl Guide Unit, Thorndale, April 25th, 2012

Graduate student Tyler Desjardins made the digital slide presentation, Our Solar System, before 43 visitors (27 children and 16 adults) from the Spark / Brownie, Girl Guides Unit in Thorndale, at the Cronyn Observatory for Exploring the Stars, Wednesday, April 25th, 6:00 p.m. This was followed by questions.

Exploring the Stars, Our Lady of Lourdes School, April 24th, 2012

Hazy clouds greeted 25 visitors (14 children and 11 adults) from the Our Lady of Lourdes School (Delaware) Grade-6 class, to the Cronyn Observatory for Exploring the Stars on Tuesday, April 24th, 7:00 p.m. Graduate student Tyler Desjardins made the digital slide presentation, The Lives of Galaxies, and this was followed by questions. Tyler then made a special demonstration, setting up helium, mercury and neon lamps and distributing prism (grating) glasses to everybody in the lecture room. The visitors viewed the colour spectra of the glowing gas in the lamps and Tyler explained how astronomers identified the chemical elements in stars using spectroscopes.
