Exploring the Stars, 77th Masonville Scouts, March 28th, 2012

Cloudy skies greeted 13 members (9 youth and 4 adults) of the 77th Masonville Scouts for Exploring the Stars at the Cronyn Observatory, Wednesday, March 28th, 7:00 p.m. Graduates student Tyler Desjardins made the digital slide presentation, The Scout / Guide Astronomy Badge, and this was followed with a tour of the big 25.4cm refractor in the dome. In response to a question from a young person, concerning the two big clocks on the east wall of the dome, Tyler explained the difference between Standard and Sidereal Time.

Exploring the Stars, 62nd London Cubs / Scouts, March 8th, 2012

Graduate student Robin Wing made the digital slide presentation, The Scout / Guide Astronomy Badge, before 30 visitors from the 62nd London Cubs / Scouts, including 20 children and 10 adults, at the Cronyn Observatory for Exploring the Stars, Thursday, March 8th, 7:00 p.m. He answered some insightful questions about the Big Bang and how we know the temperature of the Sun.

Exploring the Stars, 2nd Montessori Casa Group, March 1st, 2012

Graduate student Robin Wing made the digital slide presentation Exploring the Universe with Telescopes before 14 visitors from the Montessori Casa group, including 8 children (ages 3—6) and 6 adults at the Cronyn Observatory for Exploring the Stars, Thursday, March 1st, 6:30 p.m. Robin followed this with the activity Telescope Kits in which the children assembled their own telescopes from kits.
