Partial Solar Eclipse in London Ontario Monday August 21

The partial eclipse begins on the right side of the Sun’s disk just after lunch, at 13:07. Soon after this you will notice the black bite out of the Sun. Maximum eclipse occurs at 14:30, when 75% of the Sun will be blocked by the Moon’s disk. The Sun will be back to normal by 16:10 as the Moon moves off the left side of the Sun’s disk.

Star Night, Girl Guides at Camp Orenda, Friday, August 19th, 2016

It was a great evening for the 19 Girl Guides and 3 leaders of the 1st Wyoming Guides on the Soames site at Camp Orenda, Friday, August 19th, 2016, 8:30 p.m. RASC London Centre member Heather MacIsaac was the event organizer, bringing her 90mm Celestron Go-To Maksutov telescope. She was joined by RASC London Centre Public Outreach Coordinator Dave McCarter, with his 25.4cm Dobsonian; Steve Imrie, with his Orion SkyQuest 8-inch (20.3cm) Dobsonian; and Everett Clark, with the London Centre’s 25.4cm Dobsonian.

Star Night, Matthews Hall School, Thursday, April 14th, 2016

Clear skies greeted some 60 or more enthusiastic children and parents for the Star Night at Matthews Hall School in London, Thursday, April 14th, 2016, 8:00 p.m. The Star Night involved the whole school from JK to Grade-8 and outdoor lighting was turned off for better viewing through telescopes.

International Observe the Moon Night at Cronyn Observatory, Saturday, September 19th, 2015

Cloudy, later clearing skies and a north wind greeted nearly 200 visitors to the Cronyn Observatory for the 6th annual International Observe the Moon Night (InOMN), Saturday, September 19th, 2015, 5:00—10:00 p.m. This worldwide celebration of the Moon was hosted locally by Western University’s Physics and Astronomy Department Exploring the Stars program, CPSX (Centre for Planetary Science and Exploration), CLRN (Canadian Lunar Research Network) and the London Centre of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC London Centre).
