Exploring the Stars, 2nd Strathroy Guides, February 28th, 2012

Graduate student Tyler Desjardins made the digital slide presentation, The Scout / Guide Astronomy Badge before 23 visitors, including 17 children and 6 adults, from the 2nd Strathroy Guides, at the Cronyn Observatory for Exploring the Stars, Tuesday, February 28th, 6:30 p.m.

Bringing the group up into the dome Tyler explained the big 25.4cm refractor. Clouds thickened to obscure an earlier visible Moon. The Guides looked through the telescope (with the 28mm Meade Super Wide Angle eyepiece, 157X) towards the Moon, although it was now completely obscured by clouds. On the observatory roof patio RASC London Centre member Bob Duff also showed them the weathervane on the Engineering building through the London Centre’s 25.4cm Dobsonian, using the 17mm Nagler eyepiece (67X). Everybody was gone by around 8:25 p.m. after an interesting evening of astronomy despite the clouds.
