Exploring the Stars, 62nd London Cubs / Scouts, March 8th, 2012

Graduate student Robin Wing made the digital slide presentation, The Scout / Guide Astronomy Badge, before 30 visitors from the 62nd London Cubs / Scouts, including 20 children and 10 adults, at the Cronyn Observatory for Exploring the Stars, Thursday, March 8th, 7:00 p.m. He answered some insightful questions about the Big Bang and how we know the temperature of the Sun.

Cloudy skies and falling snow ruled out opening the dome and RASC London Centre member Bob Duff gave a tour of the big 25.4cm refractor and explained Standard and Sidereal Time displayed on the two clocks on the east wall. He also explained the London centre’s 25.4cm Dobsonian set up for display in the dome with the 17mm Nagler eyepiece. Bob spent some time discussing how to buy a telescope with one parent and her two children and gave her a RASC London Centre brochure and recommended reading SkyNews magazine. It was an enjoyable evening of astronomy despite the snowy weather.
