Exploring the Stars, 66th London Brownies, February 4th, 2014

Graduate student Tony Martinez made the digital slide presentation “Brownies Astronomy Badge” before 7 visitors (3 children and 4 adults and leaders) from the 66th London Brownies at the Cronyn Observatory for Exploring the Stars, Tuesday, February 4th, 2014, 6:15 p.m.

Everett Clark and Bob Duff represented the RASC London Centre. Cloudy skies and a forecast of snow ruled out opening the dome. Everett set up the London Centre’s 25.4cm Dobsonian (17mm Nagler eyepiece, 66X) inside the door to the roof patio and supervised as the visitors viewed the weathervane on the Engineering building.

Everybody went back downstairs where Tony introduced the activity “Constellation”, distributing 8 “Star Finder” plansipheres and showing the visitors how to assemble and use them. The visitors were gone by 8:00 p.m. after an interesting and enjoyable evening learning about astronomy.
