Exploring the Stars, Eagle Heights Public School, October 22nd, 2014

Partly cloudy skies greeted 34 visitors (20 children and 14 adults) from Eagle Heights Public School Grade-6 class for Exploring the Stars at the Cronyn Observatory, Wednesday, October 22nd, 2014, 6:00 p.m. Graduate student Tony Martinez made the digital slide presentation “Life in the Universe” and answered questions.

RASC London Centre was represented Everett Clark and Tricia Colvin. Tony and Everett operated the big 25.4cm refractor in the dome and showed the visitors the star Vega and the “Double Double” star system Epsilon Lyrae. On the roof patio outside the dome Tricia operated the London Centre’s 25.4cm Dobsonian and showed the visitors the yellow and blue double star Albireo and the planet Mars, using the 17mm Nagler eyepiece (66X). The event was over by around 8:00 p.m. after a very enjoyable and informative evening of astronomy.
