Exploring the Stars, H. B. Beal Secondary School Science Club, February 22nd, 2012

Graduate student Tyler Desjardins made the digital slide presentation, The Big Bang before 25 visitors, including 22 students and 3 adults, from the H. B. Beal Secondary School Science Club, at the Cronyn Observatory for Exploring the Stars, Wednesday, February 22nd, 7:00 p.m.

Cloudy skies ruled out observing and, bringing the group up into the dome, Tyler explained the big 25.4cm refractor and invited everybody to look through the telescope at the communications tower in south London, using the 32mm Erfle eyepiece (137X). Assisted by RASC London Centre member Bob Duff, he then directed the 25.4cm refractor towards a red light on a campus building to the north. On the observatory roof patio Bob also showed them the weathervane on the Engineering building through the London Centre’s 25.4cm Dobsonian, using the 17mm Nagler eyepiece (67X). Most everybody was gone by 8:50 p.m. after an interesting evening of astronomy despite the cloudy weather.
