London Centre banquet, Monday 2017-11-06

Post by Peter Jedicke » September 27th, 2017, 2:01 pm

Hi everyone,
we are going to have our annual banquet on Monday, 2017-11-06. Our Guest of Honour will be
Dr. Chris Gainor
Society Vice-President and member of Victoria Centre.
Chris will present the H.R. Kingston Memorial Lecture after a nice dinner.

Location and details to be announced. If anyone would like to help organize, please PM me.

Additional note: Western University will present its own annual event, the Elizabeth Laird Memorial Lecture, that same day, at 17:00
in room SEB 1059. That's the engineering complex next to Cronyn Observatory. The lecturer will be
Dr. C. Megan Urry
Department of Physics, Yale University

We are arranging things to encourage everyone to attend the Laird Lecture first, then the banquet, then the Kingston Lecture.

The banquet is confirmed for 2017-11-06.

The location will be the auditorium at
Brescia College
beginning at 18:00, with dinner served around 18:30. Free parking behind Brescia!

The menu is Butter chicken with rice and naan, 2 side salad choices, cookies and coffee/tea/water.
There will be a vegetarian option.

Price of the banquet is $50 for individuals, $90 for any two persons who sign up together.
Please make a commitment as soon as you can, to help us meet our minimum. Either reply here or PM me.
It would be appreciated if you bring a check or cash to the October meeting, but payment will be accepted at the door.

Peter,

I don't remember if you posted this but, where is the visitor parking? I don't expect it is free.

Yes, visitor parking is free in the lot at Brescia College. So instead of turning at the traffic light near Cronyn, you turn west at the PetroCanada and then the first street is Brescia Lane, on the north side of Sarnia Rd. Up a bit of a hill, and the Brescia parking lot is there. It's the back of the buildings that we normally see from Western Rd

UPDATE: there's a new post with more details about parking

I made a separate post about the University's Laird Lecture. Our banquet is timed to encourage you to attend the Laird Lecture first, then come immediately to our banquet, with another talk after that in the banquet venue.

We are a bit short of our budget for the banquet, so we need about 3 more couples or 6 individuals to sign up.

Updated details for parking.
See attached mini-map of that part of campus. Parking Choice 1 is labelled. It's probably full during the day but I hope there will be spots for us late in the afternoon.
I will be at the parking lot to hand you a parking pass at 16:30
Brescia map.jpg
campus map detail
before I walk down to the Engineering Bldg for the Laird Lecture. Note the Laird Lecture is in the big engineering theatre, room D1059. After you walk down the hill from the parking lot, it probably takes just as long to walk through the corridors of the Engineering Blkg before you get to the theatre. BTW, the theatre was also the location of our first presentation session at the 1979 General Assembly.

Our Society President will attend, so that makes our minimum number. If anyone else would like to sign up, please post here or contact me privately very very soon.

Today was the deadline. Nice to see we have 23 members and guests signed up, including our national Society President.

Folks have asked about dress code but I wouldn't force that on anyone. I will wear a jacket and tie.
