** Forum Maintenance and Changes **

Post by AtariJeff » April 11th, 2015, 10:50 am

I'm hoping to do a MAJOR upgrade to the forum software on Sunday morning so the forums may be offline for a couple of hours. As part of the upgrade I will have to back out many custom changes that have been made over time.
  • Getting subsequent subscription notifications without visiting the topic
    'Thanks for Posting' add-on
    'Topic Expire' add-on
    'Chat' add-on
    Fingal CSC
I have reverted the style of the forums back to a more basic and clean approach similar to our website. It was simply too much work to maintain these customizations and made upgrading a pain. You can see what it will look like at http://upgrade.rasclondon.ca

I will also send this out as an email to the membership.

Hi, Jeff. I'll be sad to see the 'Thanks' button go. I think it is a really good way of expressing that a member has posted an interesting/helpful topic. It saves the trouble of having numerous members all typing 'Thanks for..... blah, blah."

Hi Jeff,
do you plan to re-introduce those optional features once the major upgrade is complete and stable?

Thanks and thanks and thanks :-)

OK I think the upgrade is complete. If you like a post by someone there is a little heart symbol in the lower right corner you can click.
I will search for a topic expire extension.

Hello Gaetan,
I know you like TapaTalk and I've been using it all winter for both this Forums and my Mercedes group. I find it has a completely different look and feel from the web interface and still haven't grown accustomed to it. Most of the time I can't even find the basic list of all available forums, much less the Heart button. The big advantage to it is that the text is mostly a uniform size. If I access the Forums on my dumbphone using a browser, I'm constantly trying to magnify the text.

I see the heart and have used it.

What browser are you using?

The Heart/Like button is a bit of an experiment. I see that the previous 'Thanks for Posting' add-in has an updated version so I may install that again when I have time.

Jeff,

The changes look great -- nice, simple, and clean layout. Well done!
