Huron Woods Star Night, August 6th, 2013

London Centre members Dave McCarter, Harold Tutt, Everett Clark and Dianne and Peter Jedicke travelled to Grand Bend for the Huron Woods star night, Tuesday, August 6th, 2013. As reported by Peter Jedicke, it was a “rain or shine” event. Following a hearty barbeque dinner at the cottage home of one of the hosts, they drove to an even larger home with a great big deck facing Lake Huron.

Telescopes were set up including, Dave’s 25.4cm Dobsonian, Everett’s 11.4cm Newtonian, Harold’s Celestron C8 (20.3cm) Schmidt-Cassegrain and Peter’s 40cm (16-inch) Truss-Tube Dobsonian “Herschel2” low-profile Hanesonian. There was still room on the deck for a projection screen and deck chairs to form and impromptu amphitheatre. There were 26 visitors from the Huron Woods Community Association and Dave gave his terrific slide show, “Hubble’s Vision,” including some of the most splendid images from the Hubble Space Telescope. The hosts provided delicious desserts and the guests showed keen enthusiasm for astronomy and an appreciation for the London Centre member’s efforts. The weather did not cooperate, however, and it started to rain around 11:00 p.m. Telescopes were disassembled and London Centre members departed, ending the night with the usual debriefing session at Tim Horton’s on the south side of Parkhill.
