Solar Observing, John Dearness Public School, May 17, 2012

RASC London Centre member Dave McCarter spent the day from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at John Dearness Public School doing solar observing and talking to students about our dependency on the Sun.

Dave reported seeing about 100 children, several teachers and the principal, and several other presenters. There were wonderful views of the sunspots through Dave’s Meade ETX90 Maksutov, with a glass Thousand Oaks solar filter, and 80mm Stellarvue refractor, with a Baader film solar filter, and the London Centre’s 60mm Coronado P.E.T. hydrogen-alpha solar telescope. They also viewed the crescent Moon.
