Star Night, 1st Sparta Beavers and Cubs, November 14th, 2012

Rick Saunders made his slide presentation on a laptop computer set up on the back of Everett Clark’s pickup truck before the 1st Sparta Beavers and Cubs, including 25 children, leaders and parents, near their usual meeting place on Roberts Line near Sparta, Wednesday, November 14th, 6:30 p.m.

This was followed by observing and Keith Burr reported that Rick showed them Albireo and Jupiter through the thin clouds, with his 80mm Stellarvue refractor. Keith showed them M31, M57 and Jupiter in his 20.3cm Sky-Watcher Dobsonian, using his 35mm Panoptic eyepiece (34X) on M31 and 13mm Orion Stratus eyepiece (92X) with an OIII filter on M57. By the end of the observing session Jupiter was coming into clearer skies and some of the children were able to see Jupiter’s cloud belts. Keith Rick and Everett used green laser pointers to show what they were looking at in the sky. The star night was over by around 8:00 p.m.
