On Tuesday, June 11th, Dave McCarter was at Camp Sylvan as Astronomy support for the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority children’s program. The event was scheduled from around 7:45—10:45 p.m. There were 24 grade-8 students and 5 parents from Northbrae Public School (London, Ontario) plus the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority staff. Dave gave his slide presentation, “The Telescope: Instrument of Discovery.” and then tried observing with his 25.4cm Dobsonian telescope through thick clouds. The Moon “played peek-a-boo” with the clouds but Saturn was mostly visible and everyone was pleased with their first view of the ringed planet!
