This month at the Cronyn. Our Guest of Honour this month is Jack Hostrawser, a PhD candidate in Planetary Science here at Western University.
Jack had no idea what he would be when he grew up. From milking cows and driving tractors to studying English and writing essays, to working with astronauts in a meteor crater near the artic, he’s learned a lot about how to choose directions when you don’t have a map. Today he is a planetary scientist whose research ranges from mapping the Moon using satellite-imagery datasets, to analyzing Moon rocks (and Moon analogues) in the laboratory, to geological fieldwork and sample collection in remote places.
Jack did the honour of speaking at the Artemis II launch party back on February 6th at the Forked River Brewing Company. If you missed that event, or just want to hear the talk again, this is your opportunity! Jack will be giving him impressions on our hometown hero Jeremy Hansen, and his take on the kinds of attributes one needs to be a successful lunar explorer. Jack also had *many* opportunities to discuss the Artemis II mission with several media outlets around the time of it’s launch, and as an eloquent speaker he was an excellent spokesperson for Western’s involvement on the Artemis Geology Team.
We will also have our now regular installments from Tyrone (Constellation of the Month), and Dale (What’s up!). As well as one of our new members Dorian doing an installment about some experiments done on the Artemis 2 Moon Mission.
Our meeting will begin at 7:30pm. You can attend in person at the Cronyn Observatory on the Western campus, or join us via Zoom at: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/
