Come watch the Moon turn red with us!
Cronyn Observatory is hosting a Lunar Eclipse Watch Party on Thursday, August 27, from 9 PM to 1 AM. We will have telescopes set up and ready for you to see it.
At its peak, almost the entire Moon about 96% of it will be covered by Earth’s shadow, leaving just a small bright sliver of light along one edge. The rest will glow a deep red.
The eclipse starts around 9:20 PM, but the real show begins near 10:30 PM, when you’ll see a dark shadow appear on the Moon’s face. It is at its deepest and reddest around 12:15 AM, then the shadow slowly slides back off. It all happens gradually and is a great way to experience with friends and family.
Unlike a solar eclipse, this one is completely safe to watch with your own eyes. Binoculars help, and our telescopes will give you a spectacular view.
